Our Philosophy

Established by Wade L. Skeels in 1997, Skeels Design was founded with a passion for great design and a strong emphasis on client satisfaction. We provide custom design architecture in Berkeley and around California. Our comprehensive design approach allows us to create buildings that are as functional as they are beautiful; that are comfortable, inspirational and well designed for living. We are problem solvers, meeting challenges with opportunities. We believe in Architecture that gracefully withstands the test of time. We embrace Green Design and will continue to employ energy efficiency, natural materials and sustainable systems whenever possible.

Experience

Wade Skeels is a licensed California Architect with over 25 years of design and construction experience, including custom residential, vineyard, and retreat projects, award-winning historic restoration, mixed-use renovation, restaurants, tenant improvements, commercial storefronts, interiors, and solar design.

Our passion for architecture is balanced with practicality and foresight gained from extensive field experience. We understand that successful projects result from the co-creative relationship we build with our clients.

Awards

1995 California Energy Commission

Wade Skeels received a California Energy Commission funding grant with Sun Light and Power Company, to develop case studies of existing passive solar residential projects throughout California. These studies were intended for use as training materials for architects, designers, builders and energy consultants.

1999 Berkeley Architectural Heritage

Award presented to Skeels Design for exterior re-creation of the Mok Residence. This beautiful 1905 Berkeley Arts and Crafts home is a rare example of the Mission Revival style in Northern California. Originally designed by Architect W.H. Wheeler, it is considered the first house built in the prestigious Claremont District of Berkeley. Our work consisted of major interior renovations, complete exterior restoration, and a new two story rear addition housing a new kitchen and master bathroom.
