San-Diego-beach-bungalow
The original circa 1910, 1,000 square-foot San Diego beach bungalow had seen better days. Still, we loved the simplicity and charm of the original craftsman form. The owner was equally inspired but needed a lot more space, and knew the existing structure required a total renovation. Virtually every aspect of this house is new or renewed. Adding 2000 additional square feet to the original, we blended new with the old, while up-styling the Craftsman details of both. Removing a front corner of the existing house creating a new front porch arrival. Vaulting the existing ceiling and removing walls opened the plan for the new kitchen, living and dining room.
Spectacular in both form and function, this charming new San Diego beach bungalow is well integrated within the site, and balanced in scale and aesthetic. We consider this a very successful historic preservation project, making this family home ready for its’ next century.
